SJWS Holding Open Auditions on May 8

San Jose Wind Symphony will holding open auditions for woodwind, brass and percussion players on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, beginning at 6:00 PM, in the Santa Clara High School band room.

We are particularly interested in tuba and horn players. We are also seeking a well-rounded percussionist who can play a wide variety of percussion instruments.

For the audition you will play a snippet from a solo or familiar piece of music, sight read a selection and discuss your background and desire to play with SJWS with the audition committee. The audition takes only ten minutes and will be attended by the music and artistic director, the section leader and the personnel manager.

SJWS performs six to nine concerts per year. Most of our performances are on the campus of Saratoga High School at the McAfee Performing Arts Center. Since making McAfee Center our permanent home, we have developed a large and enthusiastic audience.

The band rehearses on Tuesdays from 7:30 to 10:00 PM in the Santa Clara High School band room, 3000 Benton St., Santa Clara, CA 95150.

Our literature is challenging and diverse, and we have a loyal core of accomplished musicians. We have a formal attendance policy in place; members are expected to prepare in advance for rehearsals.
